Surprise Starter on Friday [12 Jul 2009|06:43pm] redsox [xxfenwaynation] The Red Sox have announced that Clay Buchholz will start for the Red Sox....the Boston Red Sox, that is, on Friday after the All-Star break. You can read about the details here where I found it, on the Extra Bases Blog http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/ For those who don't feel like clicking and reading, the tl;dr of it is that rather than seeing how much Wakefield pitches on Tuesday, and rather than seeing how Smoltz feels, they'd rather just make the announcement now and go with someone outside the rotation for Friday, and resume a normal rotation starting on Saturday with Brad Penny, Jon Lester, John Smoltz, Josh Beckett, and Tim Wakefield in order. Buchholz will be sent back down after his start. I'm very interested to see what comes of this. Maybe he's worked out his issues from his last MLB stint. Maybe the stress of knowing he has one start in MLB will be too much pressure. All in all I'm looking forward to it though. If he wants to be a big league pitcher, he's gonna have to be a big boy about it and man up for one night.
